About
HAND-BUILDING WITHOUT LIMITATIONS WITH BOB KAY
We will cover some of the fundamentals of hand-building with clay:
making pinch pots
slab building
joining individual pieces of clay
the various ways that clay can be textured
the use of plaster and clay molds.
Having set the scene, class members will try things out for themselves. Each participant will be
supported in creating pieces that reflect their own personality and point of view.
We will also discuss and explore incorporating other materials within the finished work; as well as
alternatives to glazing. The possibilities are limitless!
Course price includes demonstrations and personal instruction, clay to practice with, clay for two pieces that the tutor will bisque, glaze and glaze fire and return to attendees after the event. This workshop is partially funded by Franklin Local Board.
Bob has been working with clay for over 30 years. During that time he has made hundreds of
practical domestic ware pieces as well as artistic one off objects. He loves hand-building with clay,
where every piece has its own individual character and reflects its maker. His art is influenced by
everything he sees, from water meter covers to natural forms and patterns. Currently his prime
inspiration is nature; especially flowers.
Bob sells his work through craft shops, markets and exhibitions. He loves to encourage individual
creativity by teaching small groups. Bob has a wealth of knowledge to share.
