About
Modern Kintsugi Workshop
Let’s pick up the pieces and mend them back together in this hands-on Kintsugi-inspired workshop. This poetic practice celebrates breakage and repair, treating visible mends as part of an object’s evolving story—revealing beauty through transformation rather than concealment.
In this course, you’ll learn how to restore your broken ceramic object using traditional techniques under the guidance of artist and tutor Han Nae Kim. One of the primary materials used is urushi, a natural lacquer derived from tree sap. As a sensitive and time-honoured medium, it must be handled with care and is only used under professional supervision.
We will combine natural lacquer with gold and silver leaf or metallic powder to create unique, visible repairs. Techniques and materials will vary depending on the condition and complexity of your piece.
